Waggon & Horses Pub – Proposal to Create a Seating Area in Millhouses Park Closes 4th November 2020

27 Oct

Overview

True North Brew Co. who has a long leasehold with Sheffield City Council on the Waggon & Horses pub, have submitted a planning application to extend their outdoor seating area onto the adjacent land in Millhouses Park. If this proposal were to be implemented it would provide additional outdoor space for the Pub (True North Brew) for trading and would include a seating area and the siting of a container unit for use as a servery. The park space (shown in the picture below) would be provided on the basis of a 10 year lease. This proposal would lead to investment into this area of the park and the income from the lease arrangement would be reinvested back into the park.  Investment in the pub has the potential to create jobs and training for people in the Millhouses area.

As a consequence of the COVID pandemic, catering operations have been allowed to extend outside seating areas where feasible. The True North Brew proposal to extend the Waggon & Horses seating area into Millhouses Park has similarities with these types of changes and adaptations. Consequently, this is a particularly pertinent proposal at this time that could have real benefits for the community, as the city continues to suffer from the effects of Covid-19.

For more information, the full planning application, can be viewed in detail via this link – Waggon & Horses Planning Application

Why We Are Consulting

We’d be really grateful if you would take a few minutes to answer 6 questions about this proposal to extend the outdoor seating area, at the Waggon & Horses Public House in Millhouses Park. Should the Planning Application be approved, your comments will help inform how this space is developed.  We would then use your feedback to shape Parks and Countryside’s lease agreement with True North Brew Co. and include features or facilities to incorporate into the area.

Publishing/Privacy Statement

We may choose to use your comments within a press release or online (social media or website). Your responses will remain anonymous, unless you agree at a later date that you are happy for your name to be linked to your comment/s for example Helen T said “The seating area looks great, I can’t wait to eat outside and take in the views of the park”. We may also share the content of your responses (anonymously) with our colleagues in the planning team and representatives from Waggon & Horses, in order to inform the designs.

SOUTH YORKSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE, WITH SOUTH YORKSHIRE POLICE AND THE PRINCE’S TRUST ARE RECRUITING IN SHEFFIELD!

SOUTH YORKSHIRE FIRE AND RESCUE, WITH SOUTH YORKSHIRE POLICE AND THE PRINCE’S TRUST ARE RECRUITING IN SHEFFIELD!

DO YOU HAVE A YOUNG PERSON BETWEEN 16 – 25 WHO WOULD BENEFIT FROM OUR AWARD WINNING PROGRAMME?

We are presently recruiting for our first Sheffield Team Programme. We will be holding open mornings on

7 September from 10am

11 September from 10am

13 September from 10am

Please take time to read through our offer below.

South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue and South Yorkshire Police have teamed up with the Prince’s Trust and Barnsley College to deliver our award winning 12 week TEAM programme. The course is open to 16 – 25 year olds and is a life changing 12 week adventure.

So far we have delivered four programmes from Barnsley and three from the Dearne. In that time we have transformed over 75 young people’s lives. Also in this period we have undertaken seven community projects one of which recently won the coveted Prince’s Trust Community impact award for Yorkshire and Humberside for our project in Goldthorpe which was the catalyst for the new ‘embankment project.’

The Prince’s Trust Team programme is based in Dearne Fire Station  and Barnsley (Broadway) and in September from our Sheffield (Elm Lane) Fire Station, the young people will get involved in team building activities, a week-long residential trip away to the Peak District, a community project and two weeks of work experience during the course. They will also get advice on employability,  as well as gaining nationally recognised qualifications including;

  •  Level 2 HABC Food Hygiene
  • Level 2 HABC First Aid at Work
  • IoSH  Working Safely
  • John Muir Discovery Award
  • Prince’s Trust Qualification in Employment, Teamwork and Community.

Add to this enrichment sessions on

  • Dementia awareness
  • Drug awareness
  • Internet security
  • Drive for life
  • Nourishment and nutrition
  • Sexual health

We push the young people to believe that they can achieve anything, to show them that is just hard work and commitment that can see them succeed. The end of every programme is celebrated with a final presentation in the Town Hall that each programme is tied to. So presently we use Barnsley and Rotherham. The young people can then present themselves and show their family and friends the journey they have been on and how far they have come.

Our programme is without doubt leading the way for its content and delivery and we hope to be able to offer this throughout the South Yorkshire region within the next 12 months. Offering these fantastic opportunities to many more young people in our region for many years to come.

Here is a link to the Prince’s Trust website which outlines each week on the programme – https://www.princes-trust.org.uk/help-for-young-people/get-job/boost-your-confidence/your-team-journey

But as we are the emergency services, we will be delivering extra activities to make our programme one of a kind in the Yorkshire area. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvSKmcRN_Qc
