Meet the South West Activity Sheffield Officer

Danny Kemp

Danny Kemp is your new named officer for the South West area of Sheffield. Danny will directly support the health and well-being of people in our area by:

  • Identifying and supporting individuals and groups to help themselves by setting up and running health and wellbeing activities.
  • Helping groups to access funding to increase and sustain health and wellbeing activities
  • Leading and facilitating a programme of health and wellbeing activity with groups and partners across Sheffield’s Parks and Green Spaces
  • Delivering community Health and Wellbeing Roadshows, which we’re calling ‘One Stop Shops’, engaging local people with local and city-wide health and wellbeing services
  • Linking with Community Partnerships to support the Council’s People Keeping Well work

Funding for Community Groups

SYCF Small Grants Programme

Amount: £250-£1500

Deadline: None stated

  • groups that respond to their communities’ needs
  • activities or projects that will support people whose needs can be clearly demonstrated
  • groups whose main activities focus upon the advancement of education, promotion of good health or the relief of poverty and sickness
  • groups that work in collaboration with other local community groups
  • activities or projects that will engage people who face discrimination or disadvantage
  • activities or projects that will produce a wide range of benefits and provide good value for money

community organisations with current play schemes or those looking to introduce play schemes which integrate disabled children into mainstream play activities.


Comic Relief Local Communities programme

Amount £1,000-£10,000

Deadline: 27 June

Organisations can apply for funding for projects which:

  • improve people’s life skills, education, employability and enterprise
  • maximise people’s ability to strengthen community cohesion and build social capacity
  • advance people’s physical and mental health, wellbeing and safety

Examples of projects/activities which can be funded

  • community sport activities
  • furniture projects
  • projects providing access to benefits advice
  • projects combating fuel poverty
  • community consultation exercises
  • community employment projects
  • food co-ops
  • running costs; including salaries, core costs and project costs
  • committee and volunteer/staff training


Summer Sport for Change, South Yorkshire

Amount:  up to £1000

Deadline 15 June

The fund has been created by Yorkshire Sport Foundation and South Yorkshire Police Crime Commissioner to get more 11-18 year olds engaged in positive activities during the summer holidays.

Grants up to £1000 available but groups must have 25% match funding to put in. Funded activities need to be targeted around young people living within the communities in the top 20% Indices of Deprivation (listed on the website), and girls are one of their target groups.

The overall vision is to:

  • act as diversion from undertaking in anti-social behaviour
  • provide a ‘hook’ for follow-on or exit interventions
  • enable behaviour modification
  • develop social inclusion
