Poverty in Sheffield Today: Finding a way forward.
Supporters of SAVE are invited to a major meeting on Poverty in Sheffield Today from 10 am – 12.30 pm on Saturday 29 November at Victoria Hall Methodist Church. It is being organised by Church Action on Poverty in Sheffield, Sheffield Equality Group and the People’s Assembly for Sheffield.
The meeting will be opened by the Bishop of Sheffield. We shall draw on new research through Listen Up interviews with people facing poverty and discuss the impact of benefit sanctions, the role of food banks and the progress so far achieved in following up the Report of the Sheffield Fairness Commission. There will be ample time for contributions from the floor.
I attach a flier which describes the morning’s programme in more detail. I also attach a poster which we hope can be displayed as widely as possible.

Every year each of the four Wards that make up the South West area produce Ward Priorities. Local Ward Councillors have refreshed their Ward Priorities for 2014/15. The refreshing of the priorities may result in small changes, large changes or no changes at all. The Ward Councillors with the support of the Locality Officer have outlined 3 or 4 local priorities that the Councillors have agreed to work/focus on together. The priorities have been informed by the local community, advice from service providers and local statistics, which all contribute towards outlining the Ward Priorities for each of the four wards in the South West Area.
The ward priorities will help to provide the legal justification for Councillors decisions about how they allocate the Ward Pot. They will also be used to inform local people about what their local Councillors and partners are working towards. Ward Priorities will be refreshed on an annual basis following local consultation.
The South West Ward priorities for 2014/15 are attached below:
