Consultation on Equality Objectives now Open

30 Oct

Sheffield Council Draft Equality Objectives 2019-2023

By law the Council is required to set at least one Equality Objective every 4 years.  For 2019-23 we are suggesting that we set 4 objectives, each with a set of 3 more specific aims.  This will help us focus on a number of important areas so we can really make a difference.

Our proposed Equality Objectives are:

  • Strengthen knowledge and understanding of our communities
  • Ensure our workforce reflects the people that we serve
  • Lead the city in celebrating diversity and promoting inclusion
  • Breaking the cycle of inequality and improving life chances

Our Equality Objectives are very important to us as an organisation.  They guide the work we carry out in the city and demonstrate our commitment to challenging inequality and promoting a fair and inclusive Sheffield

Whether you live, work or visit the city, are an individual or an organisation, we would like to hear your views about our draft objectives for 2019-23.

Please complete our short survey, which should take 5-10 minutes. The survey will close on the 22nd November.

Thank you for taking part in our consultation.

Cllr Olivia Blake

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Finance

Led by Jill Dickinson and Will Eadson (Sheffield Hallam University) and Nicola Dempsey (University of Sheffield)

We have a fantastic array of parks and green spaces in Sheffield. Within these, there is a real hive of green space activities that take place across the city, which are organised by, and involve, the council, third sector/charitable organisations festival organisers, volunteer groups, sports clubs and members of the public.

All of this takes place in the face of ongoing austerity, not only in Sheffield, but in towns and cities across the country. This raises important questions for debate: What are the long-term implications of austerity for our parks and green spaces? Who are the best custodians of parks and green spaces? And how does that happen in practice?

We will have speakers representing the private, public and voluntary sector and have a lively and stimulating debate about these big issues.

When?  Monday 5 November, 4pm-6pm

Where?  Millenium Galleries, 48 Arundel Gate,Sheffield,S1 2PP

Ward Pot Money Available to South West Sheffield Groups & Projects

3 Oct

Do you have an activity you’d like to deliver or an improvement you’d like to make to your local area? Do you need equipment or room hire costs, IT equipment or cake funds to deliver your activity or support your neighbourhood?

The Councillors’ Ward Pots aim to support stronger, successful communities by making grants available to local voluntary, community, and self-help groups and projects that want to make a difference in their local community and which contribute to at least one of the ward priorities.

We’ve funded play equipment for play groups, tea & cake for social clubs, walking paths for schools and neighbouring communities to get active, information boards, chairobics sessions, porta-loos and bouncy castles for festivals, volunteer expenses, ovens for baking groups, room hire for meetings, community defibrillators, public benches, seeds & bulbs for the street scene, hi-vis arm bands to encourage children walking to school, the list goes on……

If you think we can help you in any way, or want some advice on getting something started, please get in contact and speak to Abby on 0114 2037212 or email abby.wilson@sheffield.gov.uk
